Sizing up penguins

Our day started off  proudly as Keaton and a fellow kindergartner (Mary in Mrs. Haas's) read the behavior pledge over the p.a. system for our whole school.

Morning journal time! Lots of students wrote about the exciting Packers win.

We made a book about penguins that we would love to read to you tonight.

We brainstormed penguin facts and added even more to the chart throughout the day.

We learned the largest penguin is the Emperor penguin who can get to be 4 feet tall. Most of our classmates were shorter than an emperor penguin.

4 students were taller than an emperor penguin- Tayte, Caden, Benson and Kloey.

Paige and Cody were equal to the size of the emperor penguin.

Tens and ones

A furry friend visited today. Superstar Madison's cat Kira. Thanks to her mom for bringing in our visitor and helping in class today:)

Super writing Kloey- We love your picture too!

We used popsicle sticks in groups of 10's and ones to make numbers.
Gabby and Brooklyn are showing 32 is made up of  three tens and two ones.
Talk about how to make other numbers at home:)

Stay warm this weekend!

Soups on

Madison brought  the perfect winter guessing bag item!
Her clues were:
It is round
It goes fast
It can go in the snow
The answer- a sled!

We used describing words ( adjectives) to tell about the mittens we made.

Today we read a folktale from Sweden called, "Stone Soup".
Ask your child how the man tricked the villagers by making stone soup.
We took a survey to find out our classmates favorite kind of soups.
4 classmates do not like soup at all.
Most classmates (10) said chicken noodle soup was their favorite.
Stay warm, seems like a good night for a big hot bowl of soup:)

Twinning

Check out this 3D shape Lawson built! We worked today on sorting and naming 2D and 3D shapes. Check out your child's take home folder to see how they did.

Yesterday these gifted artists,Carly and Brooklyn made this amazing drawing they called, "Ms. Johnson in the Snow".

We really enjoyed reading our "Lets Find Out", readers.

We learned the coldest place on earth is Antarctica- Casey
Water freezes at 32 degrees- Cody
Some snowflakes take 2 hours to fall to Earth- Alyssa
There is an ice festival in China where they carve even buildings out of ice!

We practiced writing CVC ( consonant, vowel, consonant) words. This is a great skill to practice at home as correct vowel placement can be tricky.

What a great example!

Twinning- leopard and hearts!

Twinning- heart print shirt and pants.

Twinning- Hello Kitties!

Rockin the gray today!

Twinning- black and red.

Congrats to Benson who moved on to sight word book 2 today:)
