Just for Now.............

Emily and Camryn helping others with their shoe tying skills. Keep working on tying at home.

Today we  talked about insects and did some interactive activities on the SMARTboard. This led into a writing lesson on temporary - "just for now" spelling.  In our "just for now" spelling we stretch words and write the sounds we hear. Our "just for now" spelling helps us get our ideas down and will keep getting better and better. These are examples of "just for now" spelling of the words  insect, cold, small, dig and sound. We  looked at the real spellings and were very proud we got so many sounds correct.
Many students even wrote the word dig correctly!
Encourage and practice "just for now" writing at home.

These writings are coming home tonight- check out your child's work!

Drumroll please.............................
The very respectful and kind Owen B. is our classes Top Dog representative for November!
His picture will join the whole school's wall of fame ( in the cafeteria) for students who truly go above and beyond!

Future woodworkers- Eli and Ava were busy building for their November homework.

Run, Run!

NINJA- bread men!

We mapped out the elements in the Gingerbread Man story- setting, characters, problem and solution.
When you read at home see if your child can tell you these things!

Our classroom was sprinkled, sparkled, glued and bedazzled, but it was so much fun making our gingerbread people.

The Gingerbread man could really speed away on Maddie's car. Great job making something from wood, one of the options on
November's homework!

The Science of Wood

In science we read this Raz kids story. Many things in our world are made of wood. Then we asked the question, "How  can we change the shape of wood?"
The kids had great ideas, saws, axes, knives, even a lawn mower!
We took a safer route- sandpaper!

We made many observations . Our wood was changing shape.

The tiny pieces flying off as we sanded are called- sawdust!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

It was fun working with big buddies from the 6th grade today!
