The Gift of the Indians

We used our own hands to make the Mayflower.

You can call him Squanto for short.

We read a graph all about corn.

Maize (corn) was the gift of the Indians.

Congrats to Keighan who finally has a brother- adorable! We are so happy for you and your family.

Sink or Float

Getting to know our "Top Dog"  T.J.!
His favorite colors are  red and camouflage.

Things are sure different between long ago and today.
We read lots of books and did a past and present picture sort.
Ask your child to show you their sort and talk about long ago and today.

Check out this Native American alphabet.  We used it to write our names. It was a lot trickier and took a lot longer to write using this alphabet.  It sure was fun though!

Landyn is all smiles working on a Mayflower project.

Check out our science today. We made predictions about items sinking and floating then tested our predictions.

We used super observation skills.

Henry and Cameron check out their prediction.

Science is super!

Last, we recorded our findings by drawing a diagram.

They Were The Pilgrims

Click here for our special Thanksgiving song! "They  Were The Pilgrims"

Today we learned about the first Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is a holiday that celebrates a special harvest in  America almost 400 years ago!
The Pilgrims were a group of people who sailed from England to America on a ship called the Mayflower. They came here for religious freedom.
They wanted to go to the church they wanted to- C.J.

The Native Americans, members of the Wampanoag tribe helped the Pilgrims learn to plant and hunt.
A holiday is a special day when important people or events are remembered. On Thanksgiving we remember this special feast.
A tradition is something we do with our family every year like eating turkey on Thanksgiving.
We eat a lot- Riley
On Halloween you get candy- Henry T.
We put up Christmas trees- Mya
We go tot parades on the 4th of July- Sam
We go hunting for eggs on Easter- Jocelyn

Change means that things do not stay the same over time. Much has changed since that first feast.
Now we have ovens they used to have to cook outside by a fire- Molly
Long ago they had to make their clothes not buy them- Easton
